On October 27th of 2022, Miss Julia Violet competed in the “Halloween Howl Open Mic Competition” with 26 other local musicians ranging in genres like rock, soul, country, hip-hop, and folk. Julia won first prize after her two-song set blew the judges away. Her prize package included a professional photoshoot at the Aloft Hotel in the Seaport Boston with Max Cross Photography, a solo three-hour show at the Hotel, and a PR package from us at Next Generation Concerts.
Miss Julia Violet, the artist’s name for Julia Hoitt, is a powerhouse vocalist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and actor. Raised on the South Shore of Massachusetts, Julia grew up around music all the time. From being surrounded by her own musical family to singing in Church to participating in a total of 13 theater musicals, there is no doubt, Julia is right where she belongs.
Her passion for performance exists in perfect alignment with her self-discovery. In our interview, she explained..
“Each performance is somehow a lesson, between technical difficulty, learning from others or diving into my own musicality, those moments when I close my eyes and focus on the audience are everything“
Miss Julia Violet’s multi-instrumentalist abilities consist of Trumpet, Piano, Guitar, Bass, and Drums. She performs as a solo artist, has a duet partner, Andrew Bostrom, and is also part of an 18-piece big band swing orchestra called Beantown Swing Orchestra specializing in 30s/40s Swing.
Julia is now a Saturday Night staple at Rivershed in both Scituate and Braintree. She has been playing shows at venues like the Hard Rock Cafe in Foxwoods, Time Out Market Boston and multiple local spots for live music. She recently participated in Femme Fest at the Parrot in Hull where she experienced an uplifting postiive energy sharing an event highlighting women of the South Shore.
She is actively rehearsing and getting ready to release a debut Single in the coming months with an EP in the works. Her dedication to writing and passionate follow-through make her a force in the local music scene. Miss Julia Violet has a full band backing her throughout New England with intentions of touring Nationally.
In October when she won first place dressed as Cruella Deville, she took the stage with the perfect balance of poise, excitement, and tenacity. She began with her acoustic rendition of “It Must Be Love’ by Alton McClain & Destiny (See video clip here). Her last song was an original called “Definitely Not You” which is an upbeat, soulful, and Pop expression of a woman denying advances from a man she was friends with who took it too far. Her angelic yet powerful vocal range combined with her ability to capture the room made a lasting impact on the judges.
This Thursday, April 20th, Miss Julia Violet will be live at the Aloft Hotel in the Seaport Boston for her debut three-hour show. She will begin with a solo-acoustic set followed by a Jazz duo performance with Andrew Bostrom on guitar and finishing up nicely with a full band show. This high-energy retro-to modern soul, funk, r&b act combing original music with dance tunes the audience can sing along to, will have the Aloft Hotel WXYZ Bar on fire from start to finish. Don’t forget to expect an occasional Trumpet solo by the one and only Miss Julia Violet. Julia will share the stage with musicians Tyler Davis on Drums, Adam Smith on Bass, Maizel Samba on Keys and Andrew Bostrom on Guitar. Don’t miss this show. Get tickets here!
